Defending Tariff Evasion Cases and other Customs Related Matters – What Was Old is New Again
December 9 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
$25.00The administration’s reliance on import tariffs as a centerpiece of trade policy has thrust the investigation of Tariff Evasion and Customs Fraud back into the heartland of DOJ policy after decades of inattention. DOJ has consistently listed Customs Fraud as an enforcement priority at a time where importers are incentivized to cut corners to avoid substantial duty payments. This CLE featuring two experienced criminal customs practitioners and a dynamic subject matter expert will focus on recent developments in the law, typical tariff evasion schemes, voluntary disclosure under CBP regulations, false claims act cases, civil penalty actions, and defense of criminal Customs cases. The goal is to provide sufficient knowledge to respond to your clients when CBP comes knocking.
The event will be held on Tuesday, December 9, beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Fox Rothschild’s offices.
The program will be moderated by FCLC member Patrick Egan, Co-Chair of Fox Rothschild’s International Trade Practice and a former Co-Chair of the firm’s White-Collar Criminal Defense & Regulatory Compliance Practice. The panel will include:
- Catherine Recker, FCLC member and Welsh & Recker partner
- Katelyn Hilferty, Morgan Lewis partner and international compliance and enforcement expert.
